The object of the Society is to promote knowledge and understanding of human and animal immunology on the Island of Ireland.

To promote excellence in immunology within Northern Ireland, the Ulster Immunology Group would like to recognise and reward those who excel at Immunology during their undergraduate degree. Each year two UIG ‘Immunology Student of the Year Awards’ will be presented.A student from each University, University of Ulster and Queens University, will be selected based on their overall performance in Immunology. This year student prizes were kindly sponsored by Randox.

2011 Student Prize Awards

The 2011 UIG student prize took place on the 22nd June 2011. Prof Julie Fitzpatrick, Chief Executive and Scientific Director at Moredun, delivered the guest lecture. The prize was awarded by Jamie Bowden from Randox to Siobhan Keenan (QUB) and to Bernadette Meehan (UU).

The 2010 UIG student prize took place on the 30th June. Dr Clair Gardiner, Trinity College Dublin, delivered the guest lecturer.

The 2009 UIG student prize took place on the 26th June. Dr Heiko Herwald from Lund University, Sweden was guest lecturer.

The 2008 UIG student prize for excellent in immunology was awarded to Ms. Mary O’Neill (University of Ulster) and Ms. Julie-Anne Scott (Queens University, Belfast).
