Rhonda Curran graduated with a BSC (Hons) in Biological Sciences from the Queen’s University of Belfast in 2002. In 2003 she returned to the School of Biological Sciences (based at the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute, the then Veterinary Sciences Division) to undertake a PhD in Biomolecular Immunodiagnostics (“Improved diagnosis of botulism in cattle”), under the supervision of Prof. Chris Elliott and Dr. David Graham. She graduated in 2007 and was appointed to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the Drug Delivery and Biomaterials Research Group. In March 2009, Rhonda was appointed to a lectureship in Macromolecular Drug Delivery, with the Drug Delivery and Biomaterials Research Group.
Her main research focus is on antigen design and the development of novel delivery strategies for mucosal vaccination against HIV-1 infection, with current emphasis on DNA vaccination at mucosal surfaces. She is also interested in monitoring pharmaceutically relevant biomolecular interactions in “real-time” using Surface Plasmon Resonance Biosensor Technology.
